Volume Two - Sri Lanka

Most of the Buddhist statues I had seen before were smooth featured and perfect but the ones in this open air temple on the east coast were far from that. Rough featured, noses missing, arms missing, legs missing; was all part of the course. In fairness the temple was about 2000 years old. The less than perfect state of these statues did however fit quite well with the more remote and 'rugged' feel of the east coast whilst still retaining that element of spirituality ever present in Sri Lanka.
