Volume Two - Sri Lanka

This photo was taken for a post-tsunami recovery project based in Madampagama on the south west coast of Sri Lanka. The project is a joint effort between The Sustainable Trust in the UK and The Centre for Environment and Development in Sri Lanka. For more details on this project click here.

I was taken to the next village along from Madampagama to see how coconut coir rope was made on a large scale into such things as netting and geotextile (used as an environmental means of keeping earth banks in place). As the main 'star' in this process is the coconut rope, I was keen to include it at the forefront of the image whilst the man behind demonstrates the next stage of the process, placing the rope on a loom.
