This photo was taken for a post-tsunami recovery project based in Madampagama on the south west coast of Sri Lanka. The project is a joint effort between The Sustainable Trust in the UK and The Centre for Environment and Development in Sri Lanka. For more details on this project click here.

These signs now appear at stages all along the road that hugs the south west coast. As with most road signs you wonder how long these signs will continue to be noticed as they become part of the normal landscape. However, there is no doubt that the fear of the tsunami will remain for many years to come in the hearts of the Sinhalese. Their houses may be rebuilt but their trust in the ocean may never be.
