Volume Two - Sri Lanka

This photo was taken for a post-tsunami recovery project based in Madampagama on the south west coast of Sri Lanka. The project is a joint effort between The Sustainable Trust in the UK and The Centre for Environment and Development in Sri Lanka. For more details on this project click here.

It seems wierd to have captured a shot of the feet when it's the hands that do all the work when spinning coconut coir. However, I had been searching for shots of the unspun coir and upon seeing the pile at the bottom of this spinning wheel, I then noticed the spinners wonderfully worn feet. They looked like they worked just as hard as her hands. You don't have to see a persons face to learn something about them.
