I took about four shots before achieving this one. I saw the plane and saw the gulls were circling above me and just liked the general theme of flight - a fascination of mine that comes up in several of my shots. I was really happy when I realised that I had caught it just at the moment when the seagull's wing clipped the light and the flight line of the plane as the same point. That totally joins the two elements of flight perfectly and completes this image for me. I could go on about the meaning of this image in relationship to freedoms, terrorism, nature versus machine, etc, etc, but at the end of the day you can read in to it as you wish. After all, it was pure luck it turned out like it did anyway!
