Volume Three - California and Alaska

These are actually Californian Poppies but we saw them so regularly that they almost seemed like weeds.  They made me smile, much in the same way that a Buddhist monks robes made me smile.  It was like staring into the smiling face of the Dalai Lama.  I don’t know why; it just was.  I am not a Buddhist but regardless I treasure the Dalai Lama and, just as these poppies in this image shine out from the rocky and monochrome background, his existence shines out for me that there is hope for the human population.  For some they might look like weeds but for me they symbolised hope.  After returning from California, I naturally sowed them in our garden.
