Volume Three - California and Alaska

This will mean nothing to anyone that is not into surfing or is not married to, or co-habiting with, a surfer who has very refined and particular tastes.  A Bonzer is a type of surfboard that utilises a deep double concave through the bottom and three or five fins to create a venturi effect.  This channels water through the combination of concaves and fins in a way that makes the board faster than other surfboards.  This type of board was invented by Malcolm and Duncan Campbell thirty years ago and is a design that most other high performance surfboards are based on.  The fact that they are harder to shape and glass,  means that few manufacturers can be bothered to make them, so they remain a design for the more discerning surfer.  Phil is one such discerning surfer and as a result we found ourselves in Ventura, picking up a custom Bonzer surfboard from the man himself, Malcolm Campbell.  Malcolm has dedicated his life to surfboard design and lives it in every aspect of his life so it is only natural that his number plate should reflect this.
