It is amazing how just a short distance from the surf, you can lose the sound of the waves; muffled by the grassy sandy walls.  The same thing happens with heat as well.  As the sun drops behind the horizon, the shaded dry sand back in the high dunes starts to cool and muffle the heat of the day.
