When we pulled into the car park overlooking Morro Bay and got out to take in the view, I wasn’t expecting to have squirrels running at me. Not only is it unusual that they are so unashamedly social with humans but it was practically on a beach with not a tree in sight. In fact it was so unusual that I surprised myself by backing away fearing some kind of ambush by pirate squirrels. On reflection and after further observation it was just a case of a gang of enterprising squirrels tamed by the opportunities offered by tourists to the beach. Perhaps these squirrels have been taking lessons off of the other opportunist pictured here or maybe the seagull has worked out that by nature of their cute furry faces, these little guys have really got it sewn up.
