A routine seems to have developed with my days in Kovalam. Journal writing is best enjoyed in the German Bakery overlooking the beach. Here I can sip on Kashmiri tea and nibble on wholemeal toast with peanut butter while reflecting on my day and observing the sun dropping into the Indian Ocean. Below the bantering of the fruit sellers and the tuneless melodies of the young boys selling whistles mix with the foaming waves breaking rhymically against the shore. They cannot however override the quiet reflection of a setting sun and I will sit transfixed until the last drop of sunlight disappears behind the horizon and I have enjoyed every last drop of Kashmiri tea from the large pot in front of me.
