The air is still and warm like the summers of my youth. The sound of distant aeroplanes, passing insects and laughing children resonate around the limestone gorge. I sit watching over the canoes as they gently nudge each other. I’m transfixed with the gentle movement, the heat and the thought that a moment sat next to a river in France can bring such childhood memories and feelings back like a scene from a well-played movie.
